The fad of collapsible furnishings that can be torn-down and re-assembled easily creates a hidden danger in the home for they release VOC’s that are known to have harmful side effects to you and your family’s health. The solvents and glues used on such products eventually begin to leach out of the wood thus exposing you to cancerous compounds that should be avoided considering the small confined spaces in such homes.
Try checking for the materials used when purchasing furnishings and check for lead paint in old antiques you may have so you don’t expose yourself to the risks associated with these products. Have the ceiling tiles checked for asbestos for they may also be releasing fibers that have been causing your uncontrollable allergies. Choose furniture that are made of solid wood and were treated with organic finishes such as varnishes and other safe coatings. Report any such findings to your condo association so others may know of the hidden dangers you can address to help them cope and deal with them accordingly.
